National Children´s Orchestra Movement / Venezuela
over 30 years ago, Dr. Josè Abreu, Alternative Nobel Prize Winner of 2001,
founded a network of children´s orchestras in Venezuela. It combines musical
education with social aspects.
80 percent of the members come from poor families, 20 percent are "street
The total number has risen to 110.000.
They all have a chance to learn an instrument and to play it in an orchestra.
The training is free of charge. Thus they can be "withdrawn form
a social background often characterized by criminality, prostitution and drug
consumption. Responsibility and appreciation contribute to ameliorate their
quality of life.
